Kim, who is often mistaken for a married man, explained, "Male actors around my age often assume I have a wife and children. They are surprised when they find out I'm single." Indeed, related search terms for Kim include 'Kim Byung-chul wife,' 'Kim Byung-chul children,' and 'Kim Byung-chul divorce.'

Despite these misconceptions, Kim expressed a strong desire to marry, stating, "I think I will get married someday." In a balance game where he had to choose between marrying his ideal type or winning the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival, he chose "marrying my ideal type" without hesitation.

Kim elaborated, "I would choose to be with my ideal type over any Academy Award. I believe a good marriage would positively influence my work."
