Actor Lee Junho expressed a deep connection with his character, Kim Tae-pung.
On the 1st, a press conference for tvN's new weekend drama 'Typhoon Family' was held at The Link Hotel Seoul in Guro-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by actors Lee Junho, Kim Min-ha, and director Lee Na-jung.
'Typhoon Family' is set during the 1997 IMF crisis and follows the growth of Kang Tae-pung, a novice businessman who unexpectedly becomes the president of a struggling trading company with no employees, money, or products to sell.
Lee Junho plays Kang Tae-pung, a character who has lived a life of abundance thanks to his father's business, only to face the IMF crisis and suddenly inherit his father's trading company, becoming a rookie president overnight.
Regarding his choice to take on the role, Lee Junho explained, "The script's charm lies in its warm yet realistic storytelling. It's a script full of diverse charms, being fluffy, bright, hopeful, and humorous, yet also touching."
He continued, "Kang Tae-pung was a big challenge for me. I find this character truly lovable. He may seem frustrating and simple, but he possesses drive, wit, and a charm that brings people together. I wondered how my 20s would have been if I had lived like Tae-pung. If I had lived with his spirit, I might have felt more energized. I created the character with the thought that having someone like him in tough times would be incredibly uplifting."
In April, Lee Junho left JYP Entertainment after 17 years to establish his own agency. Reflecting on the parallels with his character, he said, "Establishing my company and filming 'Typhoon Family' simultaneously allowed me to focus more on the character of Kang Tae-pung. Watching the first episode of 'Typhoon Family,' I felt a connection to similar experiences I've had this year, which makes me more attached to the role."
'Typhoon Family' premieres on the 11th at 9:10 PM.
