South Korean actor Lee Dong-gun, 45, has been diagnosed with a rare disease affecting just 1% of the population.
In a preview for next week's episode of the SBS variety show 'My Ugly Duckling,' aired on the 21st, Lee was shown receiving the diagnosis at a hospital.
In the footage, Lee appeared with noticeably red eyes as he visited the hospital. He shared, "I experience symptoms at least once a month. There have been times when the pain was unbearable. It feels like being stabbed with an awl under my trapezius muscle. Even breathing feels like being pierced."
The doctor responded, "This is concerning. Based on your symptoms, it appears to be a rare disease affecting 1% of the South Korean population." Both Lee and his mother, who was watching from the studio, appeared visibly distressed by the news.
Lee Dong-gun married actress Jo Yoon-hee in 2017, and they have a daughter named Roa. The couple divorced in 2020, with Jo retaining custody of their child.
In May, Lee was rumored to be dating Kang Hae-rim, who is 16 years his junior. Although neither party has officially confirmed the relationship, they have been spotted on public dates in the Gangnam area, effectively acknowledging their romance.
