Prosecutors have requested a two-year prison sentence for the defendant accused of persistently cyberbullying actress Shin Sae-kyeong over several years.
On the 26th, Shin Sae-kyeong's agency, The Present Company, released an official statement confirming that the prosecution has sought a two-year sentence for the defendant charged with continuous cyber harassment against the actress.
According to the agency, the defendant engaged in anonymous threats, malicious slander, spreading false information, and insulting behavior through online platforms, targeting not only the actress but also her fans, family, and acquaintances. This has caused significant emotional distress to both the actress and those around her. The defendant was arrested by the police and is currently awaiting the first trial verdict. This is an unprecedented measure for a case involving malicious comments.
The Present Company stated, "We have secured substantial evidence of additional malicious posts and comments and will respond with the same standards to similar cases in the future."
During the trial, the defendant's legal representative pleaded for leniency, stating that the defendant, who has been living a reclusive life, hopes to reintegrate into society and is currently working 14 hours a week part-time. The defendant also admitted to all charges. However, the prosecution, considering the repeated threats and severity of the malicious comments, has requested a two-year prison sentence.
The agency emphasized, "We prioritize the legal rights and interests of our artists and employees above all else and will not consider any leniency for the perpetrator. We will take strong and decisive action using all legal means if similar acts occur in the future. Perpetrators must be held accountable under the principles of law and justice, no matter how long it takes, to prevent innocent people from suffering due to someone's distorted desires." They also expressed gratitude, saying, "The valuable reports from fans have been a great help."
