K-Pop Star Lee Hyori's IVF Comments Resurface, Sparking Online Debate

Lee Hyori's past comments on in vitro fertilization (IVF) have resurfaced, igniting a heated debate online. Amidst this, it has come to light that the only person she follows on social media is her husband, musician Lee Sang-soon, highlighting their strong bond.

As of October 22, Lee Hyori's social media account boasts 1.3 million followers, yet she follows only one person—her husband Lee Sang-soon. This singular follow underscores the couple's deep connection as both partners and family.

The controversy stems from a 2022 statement by Lee Hyori that has been revisited in online communities, dividing netizens. Some criticize her remarks, stating, "IVF is a crucial option for many couples struggling with infertility, and her comments seemed somewhat careless." Others defend her, arguing, "Lee Hyori was merely expressing her personal choice and feelings honestly, without judging or belittling anyone."

Lee Hyori made these comments during her appearance on MBC Every1's 'Tteokbokki Brothers' in June 2022, where she shared her thoughts on pregnancy. She stated, "I don't want to go as far as IVF. I haven't felt the need to rely on medical intervention to that extent," adding, "If it happens naturally, I would be very grateful."

She continued, "I know it's not easy to have a baby, especially at my age. But I have a friend who had her first child at 58, which gives me hope." Lee Hyori also expressed her desire to experience the selfless love that mothers have for their children, saying, "I've lived a life focused on myself, and now I want to experience a life of devotion."

Lee Hyori also mentioned a book about a woman living as a 'mother to all' while practicing yoga in India. She said, "Even though she didn't have her own child, she decided to live as a mother to everyone, loving all beings as if they were her own children," adding, "I realized that you don't need to have your own child to experience true love."
