Lee Min-ho delves into the philosophical messages of 'Omniscient Reader'. While portraying a character with the ability to regress, Lee expressed that an immortal life might actually be a curse. He also shared the challenges of wearing a leather coat for his role.
On the 17th, a production briefing for the film 'Omniscient Reader' was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University in Jayang-dong, Seoul. Director Kim Byung-woo, along with actors Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Min-ho, Chae Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho, and Nana, were in attendance.
'Omniscient Reader' is a fantasy action film based on the novel of the same name, which depicts the events that unfold when the world of a novel, serialized for over a decade, becomes reality on the day it concludes. The original novel is titled 'Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World'.
Lee Min-ho plays the protagonist Yoo Jung-hyuk, a character from the long-running novel. He explained his choice to join the project by saying, “I came across the script at a time when I felt society was becoming increasingly isolated. The emotional journey of gaining strength through humanity and overcoming adversity in a ruined world seemed necessary for our times. I believed it could resonate with audiences.”
He further elaborated, “As we live our lives, we each carry important values and burdens. I thought Yoo Jung-hyuk would be no different. He lives with a glimmer of hope that someone like a reader might come into this world as he clears missions.”
Regarding his character's leather coat, Lee humorously noted, “It's not very efficient. It gets sweaty and heavy. You can really feel the weight.”
Describing Yoo Jung-hyuk, Lee said, “He has a regression skill. Personally, I see him as a tragic character. He lives a lonely life, repeatedly reborn while holding onto emotions shared countless times.” When asked about living an immortal life, Lee responded, “I think living an immortal life would actually be unfortunate. However, as life expectancy increases, if I could live longer, I'd like to experience life as (Ahn) Hyo-seop or (Chae) Soo-bin.”
'Omniscient Reader' is set to premiere on July 23rd.
