Cho Bo-ah Discusses the Allure of Historical Dramas in Netflix's 'Dear Hongrang'
Actress Cho Bo-ah recently shared her thoughts on the charm of historical dramas.

On the 19th, an interview was conducted with Cho Bo-ah, who plays the role of Jae-yi in Netflix's 'Dear Hongrang', at a café located in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Contrary to the calm demeanor she displayed during the production presentation, Cho Bo-ah greeted the press with a bright and lovely smile.

'Dear Hongrang' is a mystery melodrama set in the Joseon era, revolving around Hong-rang (played by Lee Jae-wook), the son of the largest merchant group in Joseon, who returns after 12 years with no memory. Only his half-sister Jae-yi (played by Cho Bo-ah) suspects his true identity, leading to an inexplicable emotion developing between them.

During the interview, Cho Bo-ah revealed, "Honestly, I've avoided historical dramas for 10 years. I tried hard to avoid them because I wasn't confident. But during 'Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938' and 'Destined with You', I had a taste of historical drama as there was only one episode of filming."

She continued, "Wearing hanbok is so much fun. It's captivating. The locations, costumes, hair, and makeup all have their own power. However, there's also a weight to the historical drama genre. It's a very challenging genre," she added. "After it's over, there are many parts I feel regretful about, which makes me want to challenge myself more."

According to Netflix's Tudum website on the 21st, 'Dear Hongrang' ranked 6th in the global top 10 non-English TV shows, with 2.2 million views (calculated by dividing the viewing hours by the total running time of the work) within three days of its release (May 16-18). Additionally, it entered the top 10 in 12 countries worldwide.
