K-pop group I-dle has officially removed '(G)' from their name after seven years, and the members have shared their thoughts on the change.
On October 19, I-dle held a press conference at the Chosun Palace in Gangnam to celebrate the release of their 8th mini-album 'We are'.
During the event, member Miyeon expressed, "Since our debut, we always found it curious that '(G)' was part of our name. We used to say, 'Let's remove it if we do well.' We always introduced ourselves as 'I-dle', so it feels like we've truly found our name." She added, "I'm happy to start anew with this name after renewing our contracts. Many were confused about whether to read '(G)', but now you can simply call us I-dle. It feels refreshing," she smiled.
Yuqi admitted, "Having used the name for seven years, we introduced ourselves as 'i-dle', but in English, it was (G)I-DLE. We're still getting used to it."
'We are' marks I-dle's first comeback album after all members renewed their contracts. The album transitions from the 'I' series, which began with their debut album 'I am', to 'We', symbolizing the group's collective journey. Notably, this is the first time all members have participated in writing and composing. The title track 'Good Thing' features a retro sound.
I-dle's 8th mini-album 'We are' will be available on various music platforms starting at 6 PM on October 19.
