Kang Yoon-jeong "There are about 170 famous characters in 'Casino'"

Director Kang Yun-seong expressed his desire to take on another drama after the Disney+ series ‘Casino’.

On the 30th, I met director Kang Yun-seong, who directed and wrote the Disney+ series ‘Casino’, at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.

Director Kang, who is attempting his first drama, said, "With movies, audience figures and results come out right away so you know what the reaction is, but for dramas, the indicators are not clear, so I'm curious about what the reaction will be, so I'm checking data here and there to see the reaction." I was curious.

What did Director Kang, who has only worked on movies, find interesting and difficult while filming a drama? Director Kang said, “For movies, the process of condensing and condensing the story within two hours is difficult. The content must also be unique. I spend a lot of time looking for such material when working on the scenario,” and added, “I like that dramas can depict characters at length. “He explained.

Director Kang laughed, saying, “In ‘Casino,’ there are about 170 characters that I gave names to. As a result, even I forgot the names of the characters while writing.” He continued, "As I wrote, I gained some know-how, so I laid out the characters on one side and wrote down how many episodes they appeared in. When that character appeared again, I would quickly find that episode and revise the script."

Director Kang said, "Unlike movies, there was a lot of footage to film in one day. On some days, we filmed 14 scenes in one day. Senior Choi Min-sik also seemed to be having a hard time with that part for the first time in a long time. Those 14 scenes were also senior Choi Min-sik's scenes. “At that time, Choi Min-sik had to say 15 to 20 pages of lines. He memorized them all and finished filming from morning to evening.” He continued, “In a two-hour movie, even if the story goes back and forth, the scope is not wide, but in a series, you shoot episodes 2, 6, and even 15, so I thought the scope was wide.”

Although there were many difficulties, Director Kang expressed his willingness to challenge the drama again, saying, "I felt attracted to the series as it was my first time doing it. I thought I needed to get more familiar with the series, and I want to try the next one." He said, "Even though there was a lot to film, the actors also prepared accordingly. For movies, it took a long time to make on set, but for dramas, when the camera was set, the actors were already prepared. It's impressive that they put in a lot of preparation. “It was,” he said.

'Casino' is a powerful story about Cha Musik, a man who became a casino legend in the Philippines with no money or background, but becomes embroiled in a murder case and begins to make the final bet that puts his life on the edge. Season 1 concluded on the 25th, and Season 2 begins on February 15th.
