Reporter Junho Yoon of Ten Asia introduces trends in the entertainment industry. We look at the culture, fashion, and past works of celebrities across the entertainment industry and discuss fun and interesting aspects. From the perspective of the MZ generation, let's take a look at what the needs of viewers have increased and what made it popular or uncomfortable with the public.
BypoM Studio, a comprehensive content company, is at the center of controversy. These include issues between singer Chu and Blockberry Creative, rumors of Shim Eun-ha's return, and the 'reverse viral controversy' related to the movie 'Emergency Declaration'. If you are trying to increase your presence in the industry, you are successful.
In December of last year, Blockberry submitted a petition to the Korea Entertainment Management Association and the Korea Entertainment Producers Association to request a ban on Chu from entertainment activities. Blockberry's claim is that it had prior contact with Chu before terminating his exclusive contract with the company.
Currently, the KMA is conducting an investigation focusing on Blockberry's complaint. Blockberry kicked Chuu out of the group ‘Girl of the Month’ last year. The settlement issue was a hot topic, and Blockberry cited ‘Chu’s abuse of power’ as the reason.
Chuu plans to make a statement, saying that there is some unfairness. However, the team disintegrated. Some members filed an injunction against their agency to suspend their exclusive contract, and the group's activities were temporarily halted.
As the problem became more serious, Chu directly mentioned Bypoem. Chu said, “In December 2021, I didn’t even know much about the company called By4M.” The results will be known only after the investigation is completed. Chuu's future entertainment activities are also expected to change depending on the results of the survey.
The name ‘By Poem’ also emerged regarding the rumor of Shim Eun-ha’s return. Some media outlets reported that Shim Eun-ha is joining hands with By4M and returning to the entertainment industry after about 20 years. This is already the second rumor of his return.
Shim Eun-ha's side immediately refuted the claim, saying, "It's not true." Here, Ahn Tae-ho, CEO of Rover Company, who is close to Shim Eun-ha and her husband Ji Sang-wook, former National Assembly member, opened up about By4M's claims. CEO Ahn Tae-ho was angry about the second return rumor, calling By4M's claims "a fraud."
Despite the parties' rebuttal, By4M announced, "Last year, we signed a contract with actress Shim Eun-ha to appear in a work and paid the down payment." The down payment is said to be approximately 1.5 billion won. However, By4M posted an ‘apology’ after this statement.
By4M said that it delivered 1.5 billion won in down payment to Mr. A, who acted as Shim Eun-ha's business agent, but that Mr. A did not inform Shim Eun-ha. By4M also bowed its head, saying, “We apologize for causing concern to Shim Eun-ha and her family due to this controversy.”
The controversy did not subside. It was also problematic to report first without the consent of the parties involved. Shim Eun-ha hinted at taking legal action against By Poem.
By Poem has left a mark in the film industry. Last September, the movie was embroiled in a 'reverse viral controversy' related to the movie 'Emergency Declaration'. Distributor Showbox requested the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 'emergency declaration' reverse virus.
Reverse viral refers to marketing that produces negative reviews about specific products or content and leads to negative public opinion.
Showbox revealed that a negative image of the work was created due to a counter-viral response to the 'Emergency Declaration'. In addition, 'By Poem' was selected as the force behind the reverse virus. BypoM was an investor in 'Emergency Declaration''s competitors at the time, 'Hansan: Emergence of the Dragon' and 'Hunt'.
BypoM took a firm stance on the incident. A lawsuit was filed against movie critic A who raised suspicions of reverse virality. By4M is continuing its legal battle, claiming, “It is a charge of defamation and obstruction of business due to the disclosure of false information.”
