Park Chan-wook's 'decision to break up' fails to win British Academy Award

Director Park Chan-wook of the movie 'Decision to Break Up' failed to win Best Director at the British Academy Awards.

The 76th British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) was held at the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Center in London, England at 7 p.m. (local time) on the 19th. Director Park Chan-wook, who was nominated for Best Director and Best Non-English Language Film, won the award. This failed. In both categories, director Edward Berger of the movie 'All Is Wrong on the Western Front' enjoyed the joy of winning.

Director Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Break Up' is a film about a detective, Hae-joon (Park Hae-il), who investigates an accidental death in the mountains, meets the deceased's wife, Seo-rae (Tang Wei), and begins to feel both suspicion and interest. This work won the Best Director Award (directed by Park Chan-wook) at the 75th Cannes International Film Festival.

Director Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Break Up' started the global race by winning the Best Director Award at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival in France, but following the failure to select the final candidate for the American Academy Award for Best International Film, the British Academy also suffered a hardship, effectively marking the end.

Meanwhile, director Edward Berger mentioned the names of other nominated directors, including Martin McDonagh, Daniel Kwan, Todd Field, and Gina Prince, along with director Park Chan-wook, and said, "I've seen all of your movies. They were powerful works and inspired me a lot." “Thank you for your work,” he said in accepting the award.
