Song Hye-kyo, main character narrating the March 1st documentary ‘Grandma is Back’

Actress Song Hye-kyo will narrate MBC's March 1st special documentary 'Grandma is Back'.

In 1991, the first #MeToo testimony from a Japanese military 'comfort woman' victim came out to the world. Although 30 years have passed since then, the 'comfort women' issue has not been properly resolved. There are now only 10 Japanese military ‘comfort women’ victims remaining. There are only a few people left who can testify to the truth and offer true forgiveness. Accordingly, Song Hye-kyo, who has shown deep interest and support for historical issues by sponsoring Korean-language guides, signs, and works at historical sites of the Korean independence movement spread around the world for 11 years, takes on the narration and supports the 'comfort women' grandmothers.

The main character of the documentary 'Grandma Is Back' told through Song Hye-kyo's voice is Lee Yong-su, a 96-year-old grandmother. Lee Yong-su is a 'comfort woman' victim who is now nearly 100 years old. My grandmother's only hobby is singing. I especially like 'A Woman's Life', in which the lyrics sound like her own life, and Jo Kwang-il, winner of season 10 of the hip-hop competition program 'Show Me the Money', joins the song. Jo Gwang-il listened to Lee Yong-su's grandmother's life story and donated his talent by writing lyrics. With Jo Gwang-il's rap added to 'A Woman's Life' sung by Lee Yong-soo, the song is reborn as a song that everyone remembers and comforts, rather than a song that mourns the pain and suffering of oneself.

'Grandma Is Back' testifies to the background of the establishment of comfort stations during World War II and the sexual exploitation of the Japanese military through the life of Japanese military 'comfort woman' victim Lee Yong-su and various records and documents. In addition, we also consider the issue of wartime sexual violence against women that is still occurring.

‘Grandma Is Back’ will be broadcast at 8:50 a.m. on March 1. It will then be rebroadcast on March 3rd at 8:50 PM.
