Interview with director Park Seong-kwang of the movie ‘Woongnam’
Director Park Seong-kwang mentioned Yeom Hye-ran, who appeared in ‘Woongnam’, and Jung Woo-sung, who made a special appearance.
On the afternoon of the 16th, director Park Seong-gwang told various stories related to the movie 'Woongnam', which is about to be released, at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
'Woongnam' is a comical action movie in which a man with a special secret called Asiatic Black Bear uses his unique beast-like abilities to cooperate with an international criminal organization to investigate.
Park Seong-kwang directed the short film ‘Swear’ in early 2011. He then directed the short film 'Sad Because It's Not Sad' in 2017 and the film project 'Strong', which was part of 'Don Rix 2' in 2020. For him, ‘Woongnam’ is his first commercial film.
On this day, director Park Seong-gwang talked about Yeom Hye-ran and Seo Dong-won, who appeared in ‘Woongnam’. First, he said about Yeom Hye-ran, "It was a casting call. She was an actress I really wanted to work with and loved very much. But I heard she was busy. I thought she was filming another work at the time."
He added, "Still, I asked him to ask just in case. The filming he was doing must have been disrupted, so he suddenly said he had free time. After reading the script, he said it was refreshing and said, 'I want to try acting as a married couple with Dal-su oppa.'"
Director Park Seong-gwang said about Seo Dong-won, who played Detective Seong, "It was a character I loved. I wrote it thinking it was me. I was thinking about other actors and the picture of 'My Sassy Girl' came to mind. We were originally friends. When I called him, he said, 'Are you doing a movie?' “But he said, ‘I have to quit acting because I have to run a business.’ Then he asked, ‘Who is appearing?’ and asked me to send him the script.”
Jung Woo-sung makes a special appearance in ‘Woongnam’. It seemed like it was accomplished through Park Sung-woong's relationship, but it was said to be a gift from the production company. Park Seong-gwang said, "He said he would give me a gift. Although I am close with senior Seong-woong, he said that the production company prepared it without my knowledge. It is true that senior Seong-woong should have contacted me, but the production company built it up. Senior Seong-woong contacted me, so it was natural. He said, “He created a place to eat.”
He also said, "I don't know the details, but I said, 'Who is it? That's ridiculous.' But he said, 'I can do it. I'm thinking about it.' (Jung Woo-sung) said he knew what kind of role it was and that it was interesting. He was greedy for comedy. "He said he wanted to do it because he had a lot of interest and interest. But then I didn't hear back. So I said I had to skip that scene. To be honest, I was looking for another actor."
Director Park Seong-gwang said, “In the middle of filming, senior Seong-woong came running in. He came running with a bright expression on his face, so I thought, ‘This seems like a good thing, but what’s the point?’ It was almost like he was saying, ‘I’m pregnant.’ Senior Seong-woong said, ‘That’s enough. He said, ‘Jung Woo-sung did it.’ So I screamed, ‘Wow!’ We filmed it almost the day before the last day of filming. I met actor Jung Woo-sung and he was cool.”
Not only that, "The female staff members who participated in 'Woongnam' were people who knew how to laugh. It was the first time I saw the female staff members take off their masks to take a photo with actor Jung Woo-sung. They wore masks when taking a photo with me. Actor Jung Woo-sung said that I He said, “I talked to him a lot about movies. Since he was directing, he asked me a lot of questions.”
