The movie 'Dream' (directed by Lee Byung-hun) regained first place at the box office after 50 days as a Korean film.
According to distributor PlusM Entertainment on the 27th, 'Dream', which was released on the 26th, attracted 93,417 people and ranked first in the overall box office. (Based on the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network for movie theater admission tickets)
It ranked first in the box office, beating not only the simultaneously released film 'Super Mario Bros.' but also all prominent foreign film competitors. In particular, it proved the power of Korean films by reaching the top of the box office in just 50 days.
Director Lee Byung-hun, who previously directed 'Dream', said on social media, "It was a time when there was something exciting about not having much to see. People used to talk about their self-esteem, which would be at the bottom if they didn't make an effort to straighten it out. 'If you tell them to make you laugh as you please, even people sitting and watching will fall for it. ‘It can be done.’ The movie that was made like that is ‘Extreme Job’, a story that can be done,” he wrote in a long post.
He said, "'Dream' is a story that shouldn't be like that. That's why there must have been a lot of rejection. At the peak of ups and downs, am I really thinking wrong, am I wrong, am I stubborn, stubborn, should I let go? But I can't give up even if I want to give up. I have crossed the line. I acknowledge the handicap this story has, but it is something that can be overcome. I cannot give up my conviction that it will definitely have meaning and fun. After going through numerous persuasion processes again, 'Dream' was completed with the help of countless people. '" he added.
Director Lee Byung-hun said, "Of course, the glory of Extreme Job played a big role, and at the end of that success, I said, 'Oh, now I can film Dream,' and even boasted to the CEO of the Dream production company, but when I released it to the world, I found out that the handicap of this film was not homelessness, but director Lee Byung-hun. “He became a director who was evaluated based on how funny or novel he was, even though he dealt with social issues,” he confessed.
'Dream' is a film that tells the story of Hong Dae (played by Park Seo-joon), a clueless former soccer player, and So-min (played by IU), a passionless producer, who together with a ragtag group of homeless national team players attempt an impossible dream. It is being screened to rave reviews in theaters across the country.
