‘Super Mario Bros.’ is on the verge of surpassing 1 million viewers.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated computer network on the 2nd, 'Super Mario Brothers' (directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Zelenig) mobilized 186,319 people on the 1st, recording a cumulative audience of 955,433. This movie has been at the top of the daily box office since the 29th.
'Super Mario Bros.' depicts the adventure of Mario, an ordinary plumber in New York, who levels up to 'Super Mario' and rescues his younger brother Luigi, who has been kidnapped by the villain Koopa from another world. The Super Mario character, which enjoys global popularity and is familiar to audiences, is analyzed to be a popular factor because it is implemented in vivid graphics, increasing audience immersion.
The movie 'Dream' (directed by Lee Byung-hun), which was released on the 26th of last month, ranked second, attracting 106,646 viewers. The cumulative number of viewers was 645,510. This movie is the story of Hong Dae (played by Park Seo-joon), a clueless former soccer player, and So-min (played by IU), a passionate producer, who together with a ragtag group of homeless national team players attempt an impossible dream.
'Dream' maintained the pride of Korean cinema by settling in first place in the daily box office, which had been lost to foreign films for 50 days. However, it fell to second place after three days, trailing 'Super Mario Bros.'
In third place, 'John Wick 4' attracted 65,020 people, recording a cumulative viewership of 1,663,654. 'Suzume's Lockdown', which enjoyed the joy of exceeding 5 million viewers, had a cumulative audience of 5,157,122. 'Suzume's Lockdown' recorded the best performance among Japanese films released domestically, and holds the record for meeting the largest number of audiences among films released domestically this year.
