'Crime City 3' director "Lee Jun-hyeok looks, original charm is number one"

Director Lee Sang-yong, who directed the movie 'Sin City 3', talked about the villain's appearance.

On the afternoon of the 22nd, a media distribution preview for the movie 'Crime City 3' (director Lee Sang-yong) was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Actors Ma Dong-seok, Lee Jun-hyuk, Aoki Munetaka, and director Sang-yong Lee attended the press conference held after the media distribution preview.

'Criminal City 3' is a monster detective Ma Seok-do (Ma Dong-seok) moves to Gwangsu University in Seoul to catch Joo Seong-cheol (Lee Jun-hyeok), who is behind a new drug crime case, and Ricky (Aoki Munetaka), another villain involved in a drug case. It depicts an exhilarating crime-fighting operation for the sake of others.

Director Lee Sang-yong, who started as an assistant director for 'Criminal City', took on his first directing challenge with 'Crime City 2'. He then directed 'Sin City 3'. Director Lee Sang-yong constantly discussed with Ma Dong-seok, the lead actor, planning and producer, to add something new to the series while maintaining the originality of the previous series.

On this day, director Lee Sang-yong talked about the looks of Lee Jun-hyeok, who plays the role of the supervillain Joo Seong-cheol, and Munetaka Aoki, who plays Ricky. He said, “I think that (the appearance of the villain) is number one. In terms of reality, it is right to recruit people who are ugly and likely to count. But when watching a movie, you cannot ignore the charm of an actor. I think I'm obsessed with how to pull out the expression of a bad X that looks like the real thing."

He continued, "When I'm doing the second episode, I think a lot about how to express (Son) Seok-gu, and it's not good to be shown in a bad way, so I tend to think a lot about how to maximize the character's charm and express it on set. Expressing the character Joo Seong-cheol I wanted to know how to approach it, so I started talking from the bottom up."

Director Lee Sang-yong said, "We discussed the inevitability of this character to act this far, the tone, and various other things. The first thing to do was to bring out the original charm. As a director, I think a very satisfactory result came out."

'Sin City 3' will be released on the 31st.
