French female director Justine Trier, who directed the movie 'Anatomy of a Fall', received the Palme d'Or at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival.
On the 27th (local time), the closing ceremony of the 76th Cannes Film Festival was held at the Lumière Grand Theater in Cannes, France. Director Justin Trier was honored with the Palme d'Or, the highest award.
This makes her the third female director to receive the Palme d'Or, following Jane Campion, who directed "The Piano" in 1993, and Julia Ducournot, who directed "Titanic" in 2021. Directed by Justine Trier, 'Anatomy of a Fall' tells the story of a woman trying to clear herself of the murder of her husband.
The second prize, the Jury Prize, was awarded to British director Jonathan Glazer, who directed 'The Of Interest'. Based on the novel by Martin Armis published in 2014, 'The Of Interest' is about a married couple who live next to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The Best Director Award went to Tran Anh Hung, a French-Vietnamese director who directed “The Photo Feu.” Director Aki Kaurismaki, who directed the movie 'Fallen Leaves', won the Jury Prize. Also, Yuji Sakamoto, who wrote 'The Host', a new film by Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, won the Screenplay Award. In place of Yuji Sakamoto, who is in Japan, director Kore-eda received the award as a proxy.
Song Kang-ho, who entered the 8th Cannes International Film Festival with the movie 'The Spider's House' (director Kim Ji-woon), attended the closing ceremony for the third year in a row. He was invited to the non-competitive section of 'Emergency Declaration' (director Han Jae-rim) in 2021, served as a jury member in the competition section of the Cannes International Film Festival, and last year won the Best Actor Award for 'Broker'. This time, as the presenter of the Best Actress Award, she gave the award to Merve Diszdar, who appeared in 'About Dry Grasses'.
The Best Actor Award went to Koji Yakusho for his role in 'Perfect Days' directed by Wim Wenders. Following Song Kang-ho, an Asian actor won the Best Actor Award for the second year in a row. Not only that, but it is the second Japanese actor to win the best actor award at the Cannes International Film Festival, after Yuya Yagira in 2007's 'Nobody Knows'.
