Interview with Jang Dong-yoon as serial killer Jin-hyeok in 'Devils'
'Devils' Jang Dong-yoon "I don't drink alcohol, cigarettes, and even coffee to manage my physical strength"

Actor Jang Dong-yoon took care of himself by refraining from coffee and alcohol for filming.

On the 29th, I met actor Jang Dong-yoon at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. Jang Dong-yoon took on the first villainous role after his debut as the serial killer 'Jin-hyeok' in this work.

“When we think of a serial killer, there are many cases where he is not a big, bulky person who is likely to be good at fighting. There are many cases where a person who looks ordinary or doesn’t look like that at all is a murderer. So the director said, ‘Jin-hyeok. ’ rather than a boringly scary character (like me), they said they cast someone who is image-wise and looks distant. I also thought that those aspects would be able to reach the audience.”

Jang Dong-yoon, who once rode a bike as a hobby, felt that there were many similarities with the role of 'Jin-hyeok'.

"I thought that serial killers could enjoy 'murder' as a hobby. I don't ride now, but I rode a bike at one time. I sold it all because it was dangerous now, but riding a bike feels free. I thought that murder might be done with a sense of pleasure and guilt, just like this. I also feel guilty when riding a bike."

Jang Dong-yoon, who described himself as a 'harsh' type, said that he had many regrets in this work. "I can't look at my acting objectively. It always seems strange and it's a pity. I think I could have done a little better, but I think it would have been better if I did it like this, and I think I look at it harshly. I feel regret in every work. 'Jinhyeok' in 'Devils' """ should have had a little more impact, but it was disappointing that there was no such thing, and when it was Jaehwan, it should have been a little more humane, but why did my voice sound like that, I thought in every scene. I think it was clearly visible because it's a genre."

Due to the nature of the genre, there were many scenes that required a lot of stamina. Jang Dong-yoon managed his stamina by avoiding not only alcohol and cigarettes, but also coffee. "I don't smoke at all and hardly ever drink alcohol when filming. In fact, even if I don't do that, (stamina) is pretty good. Sleep is also very important. I don't drink coffee normally, but I have no choice but to drink coffee when filming. I don't drink coffee. On the days I drank, I slept soundly, and on the days I drank coffee, my body felt sluggish. So I drink coffee when filming, but I try not to drink coffee during normal times. It was fortunate that there were few episodes and the shooting period was about two months."

He continued, "I am a devout Christian. That's why I try not to drink alcohol as much as possible. I think I drink less than 20 times a year. About 1-2 times a month? My family doesn't like (my drinking) very much." laughed

'Devils' is a body-changing action thriller depicting the confrontation between the murderer 'Jin-hyeok' (Jang Dong-yoon) and the detective 'Jae-hwan' (Oh Dae-hwan), who switched bodies the moment they were arrested.

It will be released on July 5th.
