Shocking Twist in 'Dr. Shin': Brain Swap Surgery Leads to Tragic Fate
The 15th episode of TV CHOSUN's weekend mini-series 'Dr. Shin' (directed by Lee Seung-hoon, written by Phoebe, Im Sung-han), aired on the night of the 2nd at 10:30 PM, recorded a peak viewership rating of 2% nationwide according to Nielsen Korea. In this episode, Geum Bara (played by Ju Se-bin) requests a 'brain change surgery' from Shin Ju-shin (played by Jung Yi-chan) to save her half-sister Momo (played by Baek Seo-ra) from the malicious Kim Jin-joo (played by Cheon Young-min). Momo awakens in her new body, while Kim Jin-joo's plan to escape her father Kim Kwang-chul's (played by Cha Kwang-soo) threats through the surgery ends in a shocking twist as she fails to regain consciousness.
Shin Ju-shin, upon seeing the reappeared Geum Bara, recalls witnessing her pregnancy and questions her marital status, to which Geum Bara denies, causing confusion. Geum Bara then requests the 'brain change surgery,' and despite Shin Ju-shin's concerns about Momo's consent, Geum Bara insists on taking responsibility, surprising Shin Ju-shin.
Meanwhile, Ha Yong-jung (played by Ahn Woo-yeon) expresses his longing for Geum Bara upon seeing her, but she remains cold and distant, leaving him bewildered. Ha Yong-jung reveals his decision to divorce Momo (with Kim Jin-joo's brain) and seeks forgiveness from Geum Bara, reminiscing about their past. Before the surgery, Geum Bara confronts Ha Yong-jung, stating her feelings have faded over the past year, but when Ha Yong-jung continues to blame himself, she asks, "Can you accept my child too?" Ha Yong-jung assures her that her child would be precious to him, expressing his deep affection for Geum Bara. However, Geum Bara cryptically states, "I don't regret liking you," and Ha Yong-jung vows never to leave her again.
Meanwhile, Momo (with Kim Jin-joo's brain) rushes to Shin Ju-shin after Ha Yong-jung's divorce announcement and Geum Bara's appearance, proposing the 'brain change surgery' to live as Geum Bara and marry Ha Yong-jung. Despite Shin Ju-shin's advice to seek Geum Bara's consent, Momo (with Kim Jin-joo's brain) tries to persuade Geum Bara by sharing her marital discord with Ha Yong-jung.
However, it is revealed that Momo's (with Kim Jin-joo's brain) motive for the surgery stems from her father Kim Kwang-chul's threats. After a fight with Ha Yong-jung, Kim Kwang-chul confronts Momo (with Kim Jin-joo's brain) with a knife, forcing her to reveal the truth about the brain swap. Kim Kwang-chul, feeling betrayed by Shin Ju-shin and Kim Jin-joo, demands a large sum of money, terrifying Kim Jin-joo.
After the surgery, Shin Ju-shin reminisces about his time with Geum Bara, now Momo, and bids farewell by throwing a bouquet into the sea. Meanwhile, Geum Bara, now with Kim Jin-joo's brain, fails to regain consciousness. Geum Bara, seeing her new face as Momo, expresses her longing for her sister, while feeling conflicted about Kim Jin-joo's brain in her body.
Shin Ju-shin informs Ha Yong-jung, who is concerned about Geum Bara's condition, that she suffered a brain hemorrhage and underwent emergency surgery, ultimately revealing her brain death. Ha Yong-jung, in shock and anger, demands a solution, expressing his grief and frustration.
In the final moments of episode 15, Momo (with Geum Bara's brain) watches over the body of Geum Bara with Kim Jin-joo's brain, feeling overwhelmed. Geum Bara, seemingly speaking to Kim Jin-joo, tearfully admits, "I didn't know it would end like this," as her heart monitor flatlines, leaving viewers eager for the conclusion.
The final episode of TV CHOSUN's weekend mini-series 'Dr. Shin' will air on the 3rd at 10:30 PM on TV CHOSUN and Coupang Play.
