New Medical Romance 'Dr. Somboy' Starring Lee Jae-wook and Shin Ye-eun Set to Premiere on ENA
Set to premiere on June 1st, ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'Dr. Somboy' follows public health doctor Do Ji-eui (played by Lee Jae-wook) and nurse Yook Ha-ri (played by Shin Ye-eun) with many secrets, as they navigate life on the notorious island of Pyeongdongdo. The story of these 'island boy and girl' who meet on this remote island, learning to save people and discover love through the island's residents, promises to bring warm laughter and excitement.
Based on the popular webtoon 'Jonber Doctor' by Kim Tae-poong, 'Dr. Somboy' is directed by Lee Myung-woo, known for his witty and lively direction in works like 'Boys Over Flowers' and 'The Fiery Priest'. With writer Kim Ji-soo's delicate script, the drama's quality is assured. The ensemble cast, including Lee Jae-wook, Shin Ye-eun, Hong Min-ki, Lee Soo-kyung, and Kim Yoon-woo, has already garnered high expectations from drama fans.
Shin Ye-eun plays Yook Ha-ri, a nurse from a university hospital with a kind heart and a secret past. Returning to Pyeongdongdo, she becomes entangled with the seemingly troubled Do Ji-eui, facing life's dilemmas. Shin Ye-eun portrays Yook Ha-ri's pure and honest charm, as well as her complex inner emotions. The chemistry between Lee Jae-wook and Shin Ye-eun, as they portray the dynamic relationship between Do Ji-eui and Yook Ha-ri, is both exciting and delightful.
The unique characters at Pyeongdong Health Center add to the drama's charm. Rising star Hong Min-ki transforms into elite public health doctor Hyun Chi-yeon. Though stoic and cold, his emotions stir in front of Yook Ha-ri. Hong Min-ki perfectly embodies Hyun Chi-yeon, enhancing the character's appeal.
Lee Soo-kyung plays the role of Um Jung-sun, a native nurse of Pyeongdongdo, adding vitality to the story. Though she appears confident and cool, she hides jealousy and longing for the city. Facing unexpected events, her character wavers. Lee Soo-kyung, known for her solid acting skills, promises a captivating performance as Um Jung-sun. Kim Yoon-woo plays Yong Ju-cheon, a naive public health doctor of Korean medicine. Known as the 'idol of Pyeongdongdo' for his innocent personality, he faces life-altering challenges. Kim Yoon-woo perfectly captures Yong Ju-cheon's lovable charm.
The production team of 'Dr. Somboy' stated, "The story of characters meeting on an isolated island, healing each other's wounds, and growing as true medical professionals and individuals will offer a delightful and warm healing experience, enriched by the chemistry of young actors' friendship and love."
'Dr. Somboy' premieres on June 1st at 10 PM on ENA and will also be available on KT Genie TV and Disney Plus.
