SBS Drama 'Shin & Law Office' Nears Climax: Will Yoo Yeon-seok Uncover the Truth?
In the 14th episode aired on the 25th, Shin Yi-rang (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) decides to trust the father he experienced, not what others say. Meanwhile, the suspicious actions of Yang Byung-il (Choi Kwang-il) and Yang Do-kyung (Kim Kyung-nam) heighten the tension. The episode recorded a 6% viewership in the metropolitan area, peaking at 7.4%. The 2049 target audience rating was 1.95%, according to Nielsen Korea. However, this is a slight drop from the 6.5% rating of the previous episode, influenced by the competing drama '21st Century Grand Lady' starring IU and Byun Woo-seok, which recorded 11.2%.
In this episode, Shin Yi-rang is thrown into turmoil after Yoon Jae-wook (Go Sang-ho) reveals that Prosecutor Shin Ki-jung drove his father to death. To make matters worse, he is haunted by nightmares and is frustrated by the ghost of Shin Ki-jung, who worries about him and insists that legal professionals must be just and fair. In anger, he exclaims, "Because of you, people died, and those who survived suffered for a long time."
Han Na-hyun (played by Esom) discovers the reason behind Shin Yi-rang's sudden change. She uncovers the past incident involving Shin Yi-rang and Yoon Jae-wook's fathers and questions the message Shin Yi-rang received, identifying him as Shin Ki-jung's son. Understanding Shin Yi-rang's distressed state, Han Na-hyun holds his hand, saying, "Just let me be by your side," offering quiet but deep comfort to the wounded Shin Yi-rang.
Park Kyung-hwa (Kim Mi-kyung) also finds a paper crane folded by habit by Shin Ki-jung and senses that the new ghost visiting her son is her husband, but she says nothing to Shin Yi-rang. She simply reassures him, "I believe in your father, but I understand and respect if you think differently." She visits the seaside at Wolmido, where she spent happy times with her husband, and thanks him for coming, leaving a poignant impression as Shin Ki-jung stands nearby, showing the boundary between life and death.
Shin Yi-rang, holding onto a sliver of hope, seeks out Yang Byung-il, who remembers Shin Ki-jung as a firm and upright junior. Yang Byung-il recalls Shin Ki-jung's ominous feeling before arresting gangsters in Chinatown and informs him about a detective who worked there for a long time. Shin Yi-rang, along with Han Na-hyun, heads to Chinatown but cannot meet the retired detective. Instead, they encounter a local merchant who knows about the incident. However, his testimony is shocking: the righteous prosecutor who saved Chinatown from the gang Sa-ryong-hwe was Yang Byung-il, while Shin Ki-jung was a "gangster-like prosecutor" colluding with Sa-ryong-hwe. This shatters Shin Yi-rang's last hope.
Meanwhile, another subplot reveals Yang Byung-il's dark motives. He stopped his treatment and returned to Korea, fearing that Shin Yi-rang, who can see ghosts, might meet the deceased Shin Ki-jung. He finds and imprisons a shaman who disappeared from Okcheon Building, learning that burning a talisman makes ghosts disappear. Yang Byung-il also bribed the Chinatown merchant to give false testimony to Shin Yi-rang. His son, Yang Do-kyung, begins to track his father's secrets by eavesdropping and monitoring the chairman's office.
As Yang Byung-il seems to hide the truth about Shin Ki-jung, and Yang Do-kyung recklessly tries to protect his father, Shin Yi-rang and Han Na-hyun stand together to uncover the truth. With only two episodes left, will they reveal Shin Ki-jung's true face? SBS's 'Shin & Law Office' airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
