Trot Prince Kim Yong-bin's Emotional Tribute to Late Grandmother on 'New Release Pyeonstorang'
On the episode aired on the 24th, KBS 2TV's 'New Release Pyeonstorang' introduced new chefs who showcased their unique charms. Among them were Kim Yong-bin, the rising trot prince who won 'Mr. Trot 3', and the soon-to-be-married couple Shinji and Moon Won. Their candid and heartfelt stories brought both laughter and tears to the audience.
Kim Yong-bin took a rare day off from his busy schedule to visit his hometown, Daegu. Having spent 23 years dedicated to trot music, he grew up with the unwavering love of his grandmother and aunt. Walking through the streets of Daegu, filled with memories of his grandmother, he reminisced about his childhood. The news of his visit delighted the local elders.
His grandmother was like a mother and friend to him, but she passed away from pancreatic cancer six months before he won the competition. In her room, filled with memories of her love, Kim decided to cook the dishes she used to make for him. His aunt, who affectionately calls him "son," guided him through his grandmother's recipes.
With the homemade dishes, Kim prepared a heartfelt lunchbox and headed to his grandmother's grave. She had waited to hear his voice before passing away. Kim tearfully said, "I'm sorry I couldn't come sooner. Are you well? I'm living each day busily," and added, "Please continue to watch over me. I miss you so much." His emotional tribute, including singing her favorite song, moved the 'Pyeonstorang' studio to tears.
Meanwhile, the soon-to-be-married couple Shinji and Moon Won made their first joint appearance on the show. Holding hands, they revealed their new home. Moon Won's dedication to Shinji, who is seven years his senior, was evident as he took on roles of nutritionist, chef, and cleaner. He surprised her by making her favorite dish, hot pot, and organizing a special event.
The couple also shared their honest feelings. After revealing their relationship, they faced public scrutiny. Moon Won, who had to take on various jobs to support them, said, "Fans are concerned because they love Shinji, so I felt I had to work harder to prove myself." Shinji reassured him, saying, "You're doing enough," and praised his resilience.
Kim Yong-bin, now a rookie chef, expressed his longing for his late grandmother. Shinji and Moon Won cautiously addressed the controversies surrounding their upcoming marriage. Viewers appreciated the candid confessions made possible by 'Pyeonstorang'.
KBS 2TV's 'New Release Pyeonstorang' airs on Friday, May 1st, at 8:30 PM.
