Hong Jin-kyung Reunites with Her OB-GYN on 'Problematic Men of Rooftop Room'
On the October 16th episode of KBS2's variety show 'Problematic Men of Rooftop Room Season 2' (hereafter 'Problematic Men'), episode 310 featured obstetricians Kim Ji-yeon and Choo Sung-il. Hong Jin-kyung's enthusiastic response to their appearance drew attention from the start. She revealed, "Dr. Kim Ji-yeon is my primary doctor. I was just about to call to make an appointment," surprising everyone. She humorously added, "I didn't know Dr. Kim was famous for sex education, but she gives a lot of unnecessary sex education during consultations," eliciting laughter.
Kim Ji-yeon and Choo Sung-il expressed pride in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, while lamenting its growing unpopularity. Choo stated, "Obstetrics and gynecology is a wonderful field that takes care of people from cradle to grave. It used to be a popular specialty, but now it's avoided, which is unfortunate." Kim Sook added, "My sister is an OB-GYN, and she said if she could choose again, she'd go for plastic surgery. OB-GYN has many emergencies and is physically demanding."
Kim Ji-yeon explained, "While plastic surgery also has emergencies, OB-GYN often deals with super-emergencies. You might have to drop your meal or run out while washing your hair. Sometimes, you even have to leave the bathroom abruptly." Choo added, "OB-GYN carries a high risk of legal liability. The work is tough, and there are many societal risks, making it an avoided field." Kim Ji-yeon also shared efforts to lower the threshold for OB-GYN visits, stating, "Many people are ignorant about sex. Teenagers send a lot of DMs, and they're very uninformed. There's too much misinformation, so I'm creating content to provide accurate information."
Regarding the myth about 'children's intelligence,' they clarified that it's not solely determined by the mother's age or surgery, explaining, "Research shows that mothers over 35 are socially stable, leading to emotionally stable children." On the topic of 'choosing the gender of your child,' they said, "While not definitive, having intercourse five days before ovulation might result in a daughter, and on the day of ovulation, a son," with Choo adding, "It's a method I've tried," sparking interest.
Regarding the myth 'standing on your head increases chances of pregnancy,' they said, "That's a story from the Joseon Dynasty. Sperm is already in the uterus before you stand on your head," adding, "Having intercourse daily from 5-6 days before ovulation increases pregnancy chances." They also addressed concerns about 'painkiller tolerance' and 'oral contraceptives being harmful,' advising, "Take medication according to your situation, and don't be overly fearful or misuse them."
The episode was filled with intriguing anecdotes. Kim Ji-yeon shared, "I see so many STDs due to my job that it's scary. If I like someone on a blind date, I ask about their STD history on the first meeting. They all leave without answering." She also told Hong Jin-kyung, "You seem like you'd have an easy time giving birth. Slim, tall, and muscular mothers tend to have easier deliveries," to which Hong Jin-kyung responded, "I really did have an easy time," prompting Song Eun-i and Kim Sook to joke, "If we had kids, it would've been tough," adding humor. Additionally, Yang Se-chan, the only C-section baby among the 'Rooftop Men,' shared, "Whenever my brother and I misbehaved, my mom would show us her surgery scar," sharing a bittersweet story.
