Comedian Kim Sook Reveals Her Sister is an OB-GYN, Shares Insights on the Challenges of the Field
On the October 16th episode of KBS 2TV's variety show 'Problem Child in House,' Kim Sook appeared alongside OB-GYN specialists Kim Ji-yeon and Chu Sung-il to discuss the intricacies of the field.
Kim Sook shared, "My older sister is an OB-GYN," adding that her sister expressed a desire to switch to plastic surgery if given another chance. She noted, "She regrets her choice quite a bit."
Kim Sook also conveyed the challenges her sister faces as an OB-GYN.
Kim Ji-yeon shared her own experiences, stating, "OB-GYN is extremely urgent. I've had to rush out in the middle of meals, while washing my hair, or even during a bathroom break."
She further explained, "Every medical field has emergencies, but ours often involves immediate action, sometimes requiring us to rush patients straight to the operating room."
Chu Sung-il added, "OB-GYN is not popular due to the high legal liability risks," and noted that it is considered an unpopular specialty.
He lamented, "In the past, people were eager to join, but now it's more like, 'Why did you choose this?'"
Despite the challenges, Chu Sung-il expressed pride in his choice, stating, "It's truly an amazing field. From birth certificates to death certificates for cancer patients, OB-GYNs handle it all. It's a 'cradle to grave' responsibility." He also revealed, "My wife is an OB-GYN as well."
