Emotional Freeze: Kim Go-eun's Character Faces a New Wave in 'Yumi's Cells Season 3'
The first episode of tvN's 'Yumi's Cells Season 3' (directed by Lee Sang-yeob, written by Song Jae-jung and Kim Kyung-ran), aired on the 13th at 8:50 PM, showcasing the changes in Kim Yumi's life four years after becoming a star author.
In this episode, Yumi is depicted as suffering from severe emotional numbness and a slump, despite being a romance writer.
Even after bravely skydiving for research, Yumi confesses, "Once the moment passed, I just wanted to come down, feeling no thrill." She reacts indifferently to suggestions of dating, finding everything dull and bothersome.
Yumi admits, "I find comfort in my current emotionless state," showing a 'dried fish woman' persona, burdened by feelings of excitement or thrill.
While she has taken a break from dating for three years, her writer cell's influence has grown, but emotional cells like the sensitivity and lust cells have disappeared, and even the love cell is revealed to be frozen and missing, shocking viewers. The frozen, empty state of her cell village visually represents Yumi's emotional void, heightening curiosity about the upcoming romance.
The two had briefly met three years ago, but coincidentally reunite at Julie Publishing due to Shin Soon-rok's resignation and rehire. Despite the lively mediation of assistant writer Baek Na-hee (played by Jo Hye-jung), awkward silence lingers between Yumi and Shin Soon-rok, with Yumi thinking, "His face says 'calm,'" surprised by his even drier nature.
Living in the same area, they frequently encounter each other outside of work, leading to uncomfortable conflicts. From meeting at the bus stop after work to Shin Soon-rok buying all the strawberry cream puffs Yumi favors, he provokes her anger cells.
Shin Soon-rok also nonchalantly refers to Yumi's beloved dog Coco as "just a Maltese" and suggests changes to the breed setting in her work, highlighting their stark differences.
