Actor Park Ji-hoon, who rose to fame with the film 'The Man Living with the King,' is set to continue his success streak with the upcoming drama 'The Legendary Cook.' Despite being a TVING original, the drama will break the usual 'pre-release' formula by airing simultaneously on TV channels, a strategy believed to capitalize on Park Ji-hoon's current peak popularity.

'The Legendary Cook' will premiere on May 11, airing every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 PM on tvN and TVING. This move contrasts with the typical approach of TVING originals, which are usually released on OTT platforms first to attract subscribers before being broadcast on TV.

This simultaneous airing strategy is seen as a way to maximize the content's impact. While the OTT pre-release method has been effective in attracting new subscribers through platform exclusivity, it has also posed a barrier for non-subscribers, limiting widespread recognition. Spoilers revealing key plot points to TV viewers have also been a persistent issue.

In contrast, simultaneous airing targets both the middle-aged audience who enjoy live TV and the younger generation familiar with OTT platforms. It breaks down platform boundaries, potentially sparking discussions both online and offline immediately after broadcast. Although there are concerns about reduced OTT subscriptions, the focus seems to be on achieving broader public success.

The strategy also aims to leverage Park Ji-hoon's current high popularity. Having proven his acting skills and box office appeal with 'The Man Living with the King,' Park Ji-hoon is at the height of his fame. His fanbase, along with younger viewers, can be drawn to TVING, while the middle-aged audience can be captured through tvN, maximizing the drama's reach.

The drama itself has proven competitive. 'The Legendary Cook' is a military cooking fantasy drama about Private Kang Sung-jae (played by Park Ji-hoon), who becomes a legendary cook with a kitchen knife instead of a gun. Based on a popular web novel, it was recognized for its quality at the 'Series Mania' festival in France last March, where it was selected as a special screening in the non-competitive section. The strong cast, including Park Ji-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Han Dong-hee, and Lee Hong-nae, adds to the anticipation.

Expectations are high for Park Ji-hoon's transformation in this role. He will lead the drama as a soldier struggling for survival and cooking, a stark contrast to his previous heavy character. The unique genre that combines military life with cooking adds a fresh twist, setting it apart as a must-watch.
