YouTube Stars Celebrate April Fools' with Wedding-Themed Fan Event and Charitable Donation
On April 1st, 'Short Box' hosted a fan meeting at a wedding hall in Gangnam, Seoul, under the guise of a wedding for the 'Long-Term Relationship' couple. Kim Won-hoon and Um Ji-yoon, dressed in a tuxedo and wedding dress, respectively, delivered a delightful experience that mimicked a real wedding ceremony, engaging with fans and sharing laughter and connection.
The event was further enhanced by the participation of fellow comedians who took on roles such as the host, performers, and well-wishers, adding to the comedic flair and overall success of the event.
For years, 'Short Box' has delivered relatable humor and insights into real-life relationships through their 'Long-Term Relationship' series. This event marked an expansion of their content universe into the offline world, strengthening their bond with fans. The 'Long-Term Relationship' team expressed heartfelt gratitude to their subscribers through a Q&A session.
[Full Q&A with the 'Long-Term Relationship' Team]
Q. The 'Long-Term Relationship' series has gained significant popularity as a leading YouTube short content. What do you think is the secret to its success?
We believe the detailed portrayal of conversations and actions typical of real long-term couples resonated with viewers. While the comedic elements are enjoyed, our focus on relatable comedy and hyper-realistic depictions likely made it feel like their own stories.
To capture the essence of a 15-year relationship, we focused on a practical and comfortable partnership rather than romantic excitement, while ensuring the love between them is evident through words and actions. We center our stories on the strong bond and detailed consideration between characters.
Q. Were there moments during filming that felt more real than acting? Any memorable episodes?
I remember the early dating episodes. Won-hoon's natural hair-fixing and student-like speech made it seem real. Unlike Ji-yoon, the proposal episode stands out for me. We couldn't stop laughing during the proposal, but viewers found it natural and endearing, which was gratifying.
We carefully read subscriber comments and gain a lot of insights. Sometimes our key lines don't get the attention we expect, while unexpected scenes are loved. We use this feedback to improve future content.
Q. After 'Long-Term Relationship,' you're moving into a marriage concept. What inspired the April Fools' wedding event, and what do you envision?
We wanted to conclude the beloved 'Long-Term Relationship' series with our cherished subscribers. Our subscribers are like friends who supported us, mentors who gave advice, and siblings who aspired to love like us. Inviting them to this milestone felt right.
We haven't set anything specific for post-marriage content yet. However, we have many fun ideas we've discussed, so please look forward to our upcoming content.
Q. What motivated your decision to donate, and does it relate to the 'Long-Term Relationship' series?
While preparing for the offline wedding event, we realized many young couples might face financial challenges in planning their weddings. Although our donation is modest compared to the love we've received, we hope it helps young couples like Won-hoon and Ji-yoon start their new journey without being hindered by financial barriers.
