SBS Drama 'Shin-Irang Law Office' Captivates Viewers with Emotional Ghostly Collaboration
The episode aired on the 4th, directed by Shin Jung-hoon and written by Kim Ga-young and Kang Chul-kyu, saw Shin-Irang (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) uncover the truth behind school violence despite being cornered as a student assault lawyer. Esom's character, Han Na-hyun, acknowledges Shin-Irang's supernatural secret and finally reunites with her deceased sister, Han So-hyun (played by Hwang Bo-reum-byeol). The episode achieved a nationwide rating of 9.5%, peaking at 11.1%, securing the top spot among dramas aired on Friday and Saturday. It also dominated the mini-series category with a 2049 target audience rating of 2.5%, according to Nielsen Korea.
Shin-Irang, reopening his spiritual vision, immediately recognizes the new spirit as Han Na-hyun's sister, Han So-hyun. Without a moment to spare, Han So-hyun possesses Shin-Irang's body to intervene in a student's assault outside. Her righteous nature and taekwondo skills help subdue the violence. However, false testimonies from both the perpetrators and the victim, Seo Jun-ho (played by Han Hyun-jun), land Shin-Irang in a holding cell.
In the cell, Shin-Irang finally converses with Han So-hyun, helping her regain her memories. Unlike previous spirits who died unjustly, Han So-hyun sacrificed herself to save her sister from an oncoming drunk driver, expressing happiness despite her death. Han Na-hyun, tasked with defending Shin-Irang by her brother-in-law Yoon Bong-soo (played by Jeon Seok-ho), remains skeptical, suggesting a settlement as the best course of action.
Han So-hyun finds her sister's transformation unsettling. Once a lively aspiring singer, Han Na-hyun is now a lawyer with a cold demeanor, avoiding family calls and creating a tense household atmosphere. Shin-Irang reassures Han So-hyun, promising to help resolve her sister's sadness.
Han Na-hyun, witnessing Seo Jun-ho's plight, joins Shin-Irang in gathering evidence. Ultimately, Seo Jun-ho's courage reveals the truth. Despite being beaten, he secures the phone containing the illegal videos, choosing a different path from his aggressors. His struggle evokes deep emotions, culminating in Han Na-hyun tearing up the settlement agreement as the perpetrators are arrested for aggravated assault and illegal video distribution.
Taebaek representative Yang Do-kyung (played by Kim Kyung-nam), who defended the perpetrators, warns Han Na-hyun about Shin-Irang's ability to see ghosts, presenting evidence of his peculiar behavior linked to spirits. Han Na-hyun, realizing the connection between Shin-Irang's words and her sister's diary, is overwhelmed by the revelation.
Understanding Shin-Irang's secret, Han Na-hyun takes him to an amusement park, a place of shared memories with her sister. When Han So-hyun, through Shin-Irang, recalls their special phrase, Han Na-hyun breaks down in tears. The sisters' emotional embrace amidst the crowd delivers a touching moment for viewers.
'Shin-Irang Law Office' airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM on SBS.
