Rain Takes on First Villain Role in Netflix's 'Bloodhounds' Season 2

Singer and actor Rain (Jung Ji-hoon) shared his thoughts on taking on his first villain role in a Korean production.

On the 31st, a press conference for Netflix's series 'Bloodhounds' Season 2 was held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by actors Woo Do-hwan, Lee Sang-yi, Rain, and director Kim Joo-hwan.

'Bloodhounds' Season 2 follows the story of Geon-woo (Woo Do-hwan) and Woo-jin (Lee Sang-yi) as they deliver another satisfying punch against a global illegal boxing league dominated by money and violence, after taking down a notorious illegal loan shark gang.

Rain expressed his feelings about taking on his first villain role in a Korean production. He stated, "Taking on a villain role itself was a burden," adding, "I have mostly played roles with a good image or relatively happy characters, so I always wanted to try a truly evil role." He continued, "I was worried that if I portrayed it wrong, it might be hard for the audience to accept," and explained, "In this project, I decided to set aside my own standards and philosophy and follow the director's direction."

He also discussed how his villain character differs from existing ones. Rain said, "There are many famous villains, but I tried to approach it from the perspective of the characters in the drama rather than the audience's perspective from the start," adding, "I focused on how to make (Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi's characters) feel more miserable and disliked."

Rain believed that if emotions are conveyed properly, the audience could completely hate the villain. He said, "Since my role in the drama is to continuously inflict pain and despair on the two characters, I constantly thought about how to make myself appear hateful and evil," and "I focused on researching how to make people angrier."

Netflix's series 'Bloodhounds' Season 2 will be released on April 3rd.
