Unpredictable Journey: Kim Sook's Cultural Heritage House Renovation Captivates Viewers

tvN's 'Unpredictable [家]' has captured the public's attention with the shocking revelation that Kim Sook's Jeju house is located in a cultural heritage zone, making the journey to obtain construction permits a challenging one. Director Kim Kwan-tae, along with Kim Sook, whose house seems blessed by the entertainment gods, and her steadfast ally Song Eun-yi, shared their thoughts and behind-the-scenes stories.

Homeowner Kim Sook expressed, "The support from everyone has been a great strength. It was chaotic at the time, but looking back, I'm grateful we could proceed with the construction," while adding, "Just like the show's title, I feel there will be more unpredictable situations, so I'm on edge," bringing laughter.

Song Eun-yi shared, "I expected many to be surprised, but the interest was far greater than anticipated. I wondered, 'What is happening?' and thought, 'Could this be tvN's hit show?'"

PD Kim Kwan-tae candidly shared his initial reaction upon discovering Kim Sook's house was in a cultural heritage zone. He admitted, "I thought we chose the wrong title for the show. However, as a director, I felt it was a great opportunity. When else could we remodel a cultural heritage site on a variety show? I believed the unpredictable process would offer fresh entertainment to viewers."

He also confessed, "When I heard the announcement that 'Sook House' might be removed from the cultural heritage zone near the end of construction, I felt sorry for Kim Sook for naming the show 'Unpredictable.'"

With the possibility of more surprising episodes, Kim Sook teased, "You'll see results beyond what you expect. It feels like I've experienced once-in-a-lifetime events through 'Unpredictable,'" sparking curiosity. PD Kim Kwan-tae also hinted, "There was an episode that left everyone, including the production team, tense, and Kim Sook in deep thought," suggesting the journey is far from over.

Kim Sook credited her colleagues as her source of strength through the challenges. "It was the support of my colleagues. Honestly, I wanted to quit countless times, but each time, someone helped me hold on. Even now, I feel like giving up, but seeing the changes brings happiness and gratitude," she shared candidly.

Song Eun-yi, known as the owner of a 157 billion won building in Sangam-dong, recalled the enjoyable filming experience thanks to the unexpected chemistry among the members. She added, "We were so earnest about the construction that it was hard to tell if we were celebrities or contractors. On set, we couldn't predict what scenes would air. I find out 'Oh, that's what happened then' while watching the broadcast each week."

PD Kim Kwan-tae mentioned, "During the construction process to preserve Jeju's cultural heritage, terms like 'Angori,' 'Bakgori,' 'Chukdam,' and 'Ieong Itgi' will appear, introducing the beauty and diverse information about Jeju that we might not have known. Additionally, the dynamic interactions and genuine emotions of Kim Sook, Song Eun-yi, Lee Chun-hee, Baekga, and Jang Woo-young will provide a variety of entertainment."
