Actor Hong Seung-beom, known for his roles as the 'national adulterer,' recently shared his story of choosing divorce after 23 years of living with his in-laws due to financial struggles.

On the October 12th episode of MBN's 'Special World,' Hong Seung-beom's life after his long-term in-law living arrangement and subsequent divorce was revealed.

Hong, who married a fellow actor at the age of 27 and had a son and a daughter, explained, "Due to our financial situation, we had to live with my in-laws for a long time." He added, "I worked tirelessly for my family, taking on various jobs like part-time work, running a chicken shop, a clothing store, and even door-to-door sales, never taking a break."

Despite efforts to mend their relationship, the long-standing financial difficulties and conflicts made reconciliation with his wife impossible.

He shared, "We even tried couple counseling on TV, but things would revert back to the way they were after filming. The same issues kept repeating, leading us to mutually agree on a divorce."

Post-divorce, Hong met his current girlfriend and settled in Gwangju, her hometown, where they now run a street food stall together. The couple initially met through their work in the entertainment industry.

His girlfriend also faced tough times, recalling, "I had a business failure and a car accident, which left me hospitalized for over six months." Their shared hardships brought them closer, eventually leading to a romantic relationship.

She expressed deep affection for Hong, saying, "He's like a gift from my late father. Despite not being financially well-off, I never felt insecure. He's a good person who has sacrificed for his family."

The couple plans to marry this fall, though they have differing views on the wedding size. Hong wishes to have a grand ceremony, while his girlfriend prefers a modest one due to their financial situation.

There was also initial opposition from his future mother-in-law, who admitted, "I wasn't comfortable at first and had a lot of resentment. My daughter is marrying for the first time, while he's remarrying." However, Hong's sincerity eventually won her over, and she gave her blessing.

Hong has also informed his children about his remarriage plans, stating, "It seems like they're trying to support me and put my mind at ease. I'm grateful for their understanding."
