Actress Oh Min-ae Visits Kenya's Kakuma Refugee Camp Amidst Crisis
The SBS program 'The Most Beautiful Journey in the World' highlights the story of Park Kyung-ae, who has been volunteering her laundry services for years, and the desperate situation at the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.
In Chungju, a social worker visits a local laundry shop 5 to 6 times a month. The shop owner, Park Kyung-ae, collaborates with a nearby welfare center to provide laundry services for disabled individuals. The value of each laundry session she offers for free is approximately 150,000 KRW. For 24 years, Park Kyung-ae has prioritized helping those in need over immediate profit.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world in Kenya, there are people who cannot afford the luxury of washing clothes due to a lack of water. The Kakuma refugee camp is home to 300,000 refugees who fled sudden wars. Claudine, who arrived in Kakuma nine years ago, lost her parents to ongoing civil wars and is raising three children alone. Just a month after giving birth, she digs into the dry riverbed with her newborn strapped to her back. With a shortage of drinking water, she struggles to produce milk for her baby.
The upcoming episode features actress Oh Min-ae, who is experiencing a career peak after her role in the global hit 'You Have Done Well.' She will visit the Kakuma refugee camp and the Amasite Hospital, the sole lifeline for 300,000 refugees, to report on their urgent circumstances.
