Healing Journey: 'Workshop Family' Overcomes Long-standing Conflicts
On the October 2nd episode of MBC's 'Oh Eun-young Report - Family Hell' (hereafter referred to as 'Family Hell'), the second story of the 'Workshop Family' was aired. The family had previously shocked viewers with their portrayal of a younger daughter expressing her frustrations through aggression, feeling misunderstood by her family, who in turn blamed her for all conflicts. This episode revealed the true reasons behind the younger daughter's resentment and uncovered hidden secrets within the family.
The episode drew attention by revealing the foster parents who cared for the younger daughter from 30 days old to five years old, due to her biological parents' busy schedules. The 'Workshop Family' parents would leave her with the foster parents in the morning and pick her up after work. Even after leaving the foster home, the younger daughter maintained a strong bond with her foster parents, expressing a wish that they were her biological parents. The foster parents, in turn, worried about the daughter's growing distance from her biological parents.
The younger daughter recounted traumatic experiences of being physically punished by her father in public, causing humiliation and severe physical pain. The shocking revelation left the show's hosts speechless, especially when the mother admitted she was unaware of the extent of the abuse, believing it happened only once.
Dr. Oh Eun-young addressed the father, stating, "This is not discipline but clear violence and child abuse. The younger daughter still fears confronting her father due to the severe trauma and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) from her childhood. Just as the father took out his frustrations on the weakest family member, the daughter, she now targets her sister, not out of dislike for her, but because of her resentment towards her father."
Dr. Oh comforted the younger daughter, acknowledging the underlying injustice and sadness behind her anger, and noted her desire to be part of the family. In a conversation with her foster parents, the younger daughter revealed her true feelings, saying, "I want to be within the family circle, in my parents' arms, but I can't, and it's heartbreaking." Hearing her sincerity, her biological parents were moved to tears.
Dr. Oh urged the father to sincerely apologize for not acknowledging the abuse and pain inflicted on the younger daughter and to stop interrupting conversations. She offered heartfelt encouragement to the younger daughter, saying, "Standing in your childhood is too cold and painful. Trust me and take a step up." The episode concluded with a heartwarming update on the 'Workshop Family,' who have transformed significantly.
The younger daughter and her father were seen walking hand in hand, symbolizing their newfound closeness. Overcoming long-held resentment and sorrow, the 'Workshop Family' has rediscovered their familial love, leaving viewers touched.
