Netflix's 'Monthly Boyfriend' Promises to Add Excitement to Everyday Life with BLACKPINK's Jisoo and Seo In-guk
'Monthly Boyfriend' is a romantic comedy that follows the story of Mi-rae, a webtoon PD played by Jisoo, who is exhausted by her real-life routine. She subscribes to a virtual dating simulation, experiencing her dream romances in a virtual world. The series title also refers to the virtual dating subscription service within the show, offering dreamlike dates in a virtual setting. This unique premise promises thrilling excitement as it overlays the realistic daily life of an office worker with the fantasy of virtual dating.
The main trailer reveals Mi-rae escaping her monotonous routine to enter 'Monthly Boyfriend.' Welcomed by the Date Manager, played by Yoo In-na, she steps into the virtual dating world, where fantasy-like events unfold. From meeting a prince-like date to encountering a first love on a cherry blossom-filled campus, receiving a passionate confession from a charming doctor, and even meeting secret agents and top stars, Mi-rae's dream dates come to life. After experiencing these thrilling dates, Mi-rae finds herself in a sweet daze. Meanwhile, the mysterious presence of Kyung-nam, played by Seo In-guk, who becomes her unexpected overtime mate, adds intrigue.
Director Kim Jung-sik, who helmed 'Monthly Boyfriend,' highlighted the series' unique appeal, stating, "The charm of 'Monthly Boyfriend' lies in the protagonist experiencing romance with various characters in different worlds and settings within a single work. It allows for a variety of romantic comedy variations." He further explained that for the virtual world dating scenes, "We focused on showcasing the diverse charms of actress Jisoo in a vibrant way. Each episode features different professions and settings, with acting tones adjusted to distinguish between Mi-rae's real and virtual world roles."
The romantic comedy 'Monthly Boyfriend' will be available on Netflix starting March 6.
