Bae Jong-ok Shines as a Powerful Mogul in Netflix's 'Lady Dua'
The Netflix series 'Lady Dua' tells the story of Sarah Kim (played by Shin Hye-sun), a woman who aspires to become a luxury brand despite being fake, and Moo-kyung (played by Lee Jun-hyuk), a man who pursues her desires.
In the series, Bae Jong-ok plays Choi Chae-woo, the chairman of Samwol Department Store. Through her portrayal of Choi Chae-woo, Bae Jong-ok masterfully embodies the face of a power figure, combining coldness and composure, once again redefining her career-defining character.
Choi Chae-woo, who does not easily trust people, evaluates all relationships as transactions. To protect herself and her department store, she does not hesitate to make bold choices, such as destroying evidence. A particularly talked-about scene involves a bed scene with Kim Jae-won (played by Kang Ji-hwan), who is 37 years her junior.
In the confrontation scene with Moo-kyung, Choi Chae-woo's true value as an absolute power broker shines. She excels at discerning what her opponent wants, maintaining a calm smile even under pressure, and leading the situation, encapsulating her character succinctly.
Bae Jong-ok intricately portrays Choi Chae-woo's complex inner world, allowing her to serve as the central pillar of the story. Known for her deep performances across various genres, Bae Jong-ok showcases her broad acting spectrum in 'Lady Dua', meticulously building the coldness, sharpness, arrogance, and anxiety of a power figure, completing the mystery narrative.
