Actress Nam Bo-ra Prefers Gold Bars Over Rings for Baby's First Birthday Gifts
On the October 14th episode of MBN's 'Dongchimi', themed 'How to Turn a Setback into a Success', Nam Bo-ra appeared as a guest.
During the show, Nam Bo-ra asked, "When you give birth, don't you receive a lot of gold at the first birthday party? Is it better to receive it as a ring or as pure gold?"
Nam Bo-ra mentioned, "Rings have labor costs, so the price is different," referring to the additional costs. Jewelry store owner Choi Sung-kyu explained, "Nowadays, first birthday rings cost over 1 million won. Many mothers prefer receiving a gold bar instead of a ring."
Choi added, "Rings, necklaces, and bracelets have joints that reduce their purity when melted, and analysis fees are charged for the missing percentage. Gold bars, however, have almost no labor costs when purchased and can be sold at full value."
Choi Sung-kyu explained, "Most people who buy gold have financial stability. Their goal is not short-term trading but holding it for 5 to 10 years. Wealthy individuals buy quietly and discreetly, viewing gold as insurance against unforeseen events."
He then showcased a 1kg gold bar, stating, "1kg equals 267 don, and as of the January 29th recording, it's valued at 280 million won. Silver has also surged to 7.5 million won per kg."
