Singer Kim Soo-chul Tearfully Remembers Late Benefactor Ahn Sung-ki on KBS 'Morning Yard'

Singer Kim Soo-chul shed tears as he fondly remembered the late Ahn Sung-ki, whom he considered a benefactor.

On the October 10th broadcast of KBS 1TV's 'Morning Yard,' Kim Soo-chul appeared as a guest.

Kim Soo-chul shared his connection with Ahn Sung-ki, revealing that they knew each other since their university days. He recounted, "Studying traditional Korean music didn't bring in any income. I ran out of money and needed to record my studies, but my pride wouldn't let me ask around for help." He continued, "I told Sung-ki hyung that I needed money for my studies, and the next day, he deposited a large sum. I used that for recording."

Years later, Kim found himself in a similar situation. "Seven or eight years passed, and I ran out of money again. This time, working with an orchestra required even more funds. I told Sung-ki hyung that I needed to record again. Instead of questioning why I kept pursuing something unprofitable, he simply asked how much I needed and deposited the money the next day," Kim recalled.

Thanks to Ahn Sung-ki's recommendation, Kim Soo-chul was able to appear in the film 'Whale Hunting.' Kim shared, "The director was looking for a short, somewhat clueless actor but couldn't find one. Sung-ki hyung said, 'I know someone,' and that's how I got cast."

Expressing his gratitude towards Ahn Sung-ki, Kim Soo-chul said, "He supported me when no one else cared about traditional Korean music. We kept in touch occasionally until he became paralyzed, and then we lost contact. When I spoke with his wife, I realized the end was near," he said tearfully.
