Yoon Ji-sung Advocates for Abandoned Pets: A Journey from Idol to Animal Advocate
"I believe abandoning animals is a far more serious issue than getting them from pet shops. I want to regularly raise awareness about this issue whenever I get the chance, hoping that such acts of abandonment will cease."
Yoon Ji-sung shared these thoughts during a recent meeting at a café in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Known as the former leader of Wanna One and now an active actor, Yoon Ji-sung first captured the audience's attention with his unique humor on the 2017 show 'Produce 101 Season 2'. Born in 1991, he was 27 at the time, standing out among younger contestants after a long trainee period.
Despite the age difference, Yoon Ji-sung expanded his presence with witty leadership, naturally building a friendly image among younger trainees. His bright energy resonated with fans, leading to a strong fanbase and his eventual debut as the responsible leader of the 11-member group Wanna One, finishing in 8th place.
In February 2021, Yoon Ji-sung introduced his fans to 'Bero', an abandoned dog he adopted after over a year of careful consideration and study. Nearly five years have passed since Bero became part of his family, and Yoon Ji-sung emphasizes the immense happiness Bero brings to his life.
Yoon Ji-sung hopes that by continuing to speak out, he can reach others as Lee Hyori reached him. He expressed disappointment at seeing people still buying dogs from pet shops, despite acknowledging Bero's beauty.
Yoon Ji-sung believes everyone has their own way of advocating. He prefers a lighter approach, continuously sharing his story. "Showing Bero's beautiful and healthy life is the most natural way for me. I hope more people will let go of negative stereotypes about abandoned dogs and show them love and care."
He concluded, "I believe everything has its time. Even if I become busy again, my love for Bero won't change. I'm happy to have this time to spend with him now."
