Korean Actors Jung Woo-sung and Lee Jung-jae to Honor Late Ahn Sung-ki's Final Journey
On January 5th, Artist Company announced, "Actor Ahn Sung-ki passed away on January 5, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the age of 74."
The statement continued, "Ahn Sung-ki was more than just an actor; he was a person who valued dignity and responsibility above all, respecting fellow artists and the industry. He was truly a 'national actor.' We are deeply saddened by the sudden news and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family."
The funeral will be conducted as a film industry ceremony, organized by the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation and the Korean Film Actors Association. Honorary funeral committee members include Shin Young-kyun, director Bae Chang-ho, Lee Gap-sung, Shin Eon-sik, and Yang Yoon-ho.
Film industry figures, including Lee Jung-jae and Jung Woo-sung, will serve as pallbearers. The wake is being held at Room 31 of the Seoul St. Mary's Hospital Funeral Hall, with the funeral service scheduled for 6 a.m. on January 9. The burial site will be at Byeolgeurida in Yangpyeong.
Ahn Sung-ki had been battling blood cancer until his passing. Diagnosed in 2019, he achieved remission in 2020, but the disease recurred six months later during follow-up checks.
Born in 1952, Ahn Sung-ki debuted at the age of five in the film 'Twilight Train' in 1957. Over his 60-year career, he appeared in approximately 200 films, earning the love and admiration of the nation as a beloved actor.
