Actor Jung Jun Speaks Out on Cho Jin-woong's Retirement Amid Past Crime Revelations
On the 7th, Jung Jun took to his social media to express his views, stating, "If we were to live with our past mistakes labeled on our foreheads, it would be difficult for anyone to stand in front of the public." He reflected on the controversy surrounding Cho Jin-woong.
Jung Jun recalled his early days in the industry, remembering Cho Jin-woong as someone who was always the first to arrive on set, greeting everyone humbly without a manager or vehicle. He noted, "I can't forget how he stayed until all the staff had left after filming."
Although Jung Jun mentioned he hasn't personally met or contacted Cho Jin-woong since then, he admitted, "The impression he left stayed with me, and I've continued to support him by watching his works."
However, Jung Jun clarified that he is not defending Cho Jin-woong's past actions. He emphasized, "I'm not saying his past mistakes were right. I believe he has already paid for the responsibilities of his youth," and added, "It's unfortunate that such a label follows him for life."
Jung Jun also pondered on the concept of forgiveness, stating, "We were never taught how far forgiveness should extend," and added, "If someone has lived a life of reflection, we should also consider what comes next." He concluded his message with words of encouragement, "Stay strong, brother," and advised, "Leave when the fans tell you to, but now is not the time."
Previously, Cho Jin-woong was embroiled in controversy after it was revealed that he had received juvenile protection for a serious crime during high school and had convictions for assault and drunk driving as an adult. On the 6th, he announced his retirement, stating, "I apologize for disappointing you with my past indiscretions."
