Science YouTuber Gwido has taken a firm stance against the myth that making beautiful songpyeon, a traditional Korean rice cake, leads to having beautiful babies.

On Big Bang's Daesung's YouTube channel 'Jipdaesung,' a video titled 'Did Gwido Lupin Steal 40 Minutes of My Chuseok Holiday? Do Beautiful Songpyeon Lead to Beautiful Babies?' was uploaded.

In the video, Science YouTuber Gwido and Daesung are seen making songpyeon to celebrate Chuseok. Daesung asks Gwido, "There's a saying that if you make songpyeon beautifully, you'll have beautiful babies. What do you think?" Gwido firmly responds, "I think that's nonsense."

Gwido explains his stance scientifically. Daesung adds, "This has nothing to do with genetics, but it could be considered pseudoscience because it's about the meticulous mindset involved in making them."

Daesung continues, "It's about mindset. People with good craftsmanship might refine their skills, but my mindset is more like 'this is good enough.'" Gwido agrees, "If we express our sincerity through songpyeon, that's the intention, and it's a very accurate approach. When someone is pregnant, people naturally want to offer blessings."

He adds, "So, elders look for something to compliment. If they see you making beautiful songpyeon, they might say, 'Wow, seeing you make such beautiful songpyeon, you'll have beautiful babies.' But if you can't make them well, they might just pretend not to notice."

Daesung concludes, "Ah, so if there's nothing to compliment, that's why." Gwido adds, "No one would say to someone who can't make songpyeon, 'Seeing your songpyeon, you'll have ugly babies.'" Daesung jokes, "Isn't it like saying moving on a rainy day brings good luck to avoid making someone feel bad?"
