Kang Ki-young Reflects on 'Mary Kills People' and Prepares for New Film Role

Actor Kang Ki-young has shared his thoughts on concluding the drama 'Mary Kills People.'

MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Mary Kills People' wrapped up with its 12th episode. The series, which started with a 3.2% viewership rating, saw a decline to 1.1% by episodes 10 and 11, ending with a final episode rating of 1.2%.

In the drama, Kang Ki-young portrayed Choi Dae-hyun, a former doctor assisting Lee Bo-young's character, Woo So-jung. He skillfully depicted the complex emotions surrounding the unfamiliar theme of assisted death, balancing sincerity in front of patients and their families with the internal struggle between conviction and guilt.

Kang Ki-young, who played Choi Dae-hyun, constantly faced requests related to assisted death from patients and those around him, leading to a character deeply entrenched in contemplation until the end. He stated, "This project was a precious time that made me question human dignity, the meaning of life, and how to view the final moments. I acted with the hope that the inevitable farewells everyone faces would be a little less painful, and if that sentiment was conveyed, I couldn't ask for more."

He continued, "I am deeply grateful to the director, writer, all the staff, and my fellow actors who worked hard for this project. I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who watched with a warm perspective despite the challenging subject matter. This project will be a meaningful milestone that I will remember for a long time. I will continue to grow as an actor who can convey comfort and empathy."

Kang Ki-young will next appear on the big screen in the omnibus film 'Believe,' playing the role of detective Tae-soo in the first part, 'No One,' which premieres on the 17th. His new transformation promises to showcase a different charm from his drama roles.
