Disney+ Original Series 'Tempest' Unveiled by Writer Chung Seo-kyung

On the afternoon of the 20th, a Creators Talk for 'Tempest' was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul. The event was attended by directors Kim Hee-won and Heo Myeong-haeng, writer Jeong Seo-kyeong, art director Kim Byung-han, and VFX supervisor Hong Jeong-ho.
'Tempest' follows Moon Ju (played by Jun Ji-hyun), a UN ambassador who has gained international fame, as she investigates the forces behind an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate. She is joined by San-ho (played by Kang Dong-won), a stateless special agent tasked with protecting her, as they uncover a massive truth threatening the Korean Peninsula.
Jeong shared, "The beginning was around the week after my previous drama 'Little Women' ended. I loved 'Little Women' so much. The production team always delivered great work within the given time, making me feel like I was riding a supercar. I wanted to write a project where the Korean production team could showcase their best abilities. Since I was in a great car, I wanted to drive at top speed."
She continued, "I decided to think of it as an escape room game. I thought I couldn't leave the room without writing a powerful female melodrama, so I set it up step by step. I imagined a woman as a politician facing a terror threat. Then, there had to be a man protecting her, and I thought he should be handsome. As I wrote line by line, the synopsis came together."
Jeong added, "I wanted to explore the endless possibilities of espionage in Korea, the only divided country in the world. Instead of traditional espionage developed in Europe or the U.S., I wanted to develop a Korean genre. I aimed to address contemporary issues rather than outdated ideologies, moving forward instead of backward."
As a result, 'Tempest' became an incredibly large story. Jeong explained, "I thought our series could become as big as a Marvel production. The melodrama aspect was emphasized. In the midst of life, two people unexpectedly discover love. They find themselves in each other and create a unique love story."
'Tempest' will be released sequentially starting on the 10th of next month.
