Kim Young-kwang Reflects on His Role in Netflix's 'Trigger'

In a recent interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Kim Young-kwang discussed his role as Moon Baek in the series 'Trigger'.
'Trigger' is a gripping gun disaster action thriller that unfolds the story of two men who, for their own reasons, find themselves armed amidst a surge of illegal firearms and gun-related incidents in South Korea. Moon Baek is portrayed as a free-spirited character who unexpectedly teams up with Lee Do, played by Kim Nam-gil, leading to an unpredictable partnership.
Initially, Moon Baek appears as a charming and loyal character, but as the series progresses, his true identity is revealed. It turns out that Moon Baek is the one responsible for smuggling firearms into South Korea, marking the beginning of the gun delivery incidents. Additionally, Moon Baek is battling terminal cancer with only six months to live, and his deteriorating condition is mirrored in the escalating chaos of the gun incidents.
Kim Young-kwang explained, "As the story progresses, I lost weight to appear more emaciated. My eyes became hollow, and I aimed to look physically drained. I exercised while fasting to achieve this look," he said. "We also intensified the makeup gradually, drawing dark circles to show that Moon Baek's time was running out."
He added, "I naturally have a lot of gray hair, so I usually dye it. For this role, I dyed it even more to depict his weakening state."
When asked how he would spend his remaining time if he were in Moon Baek's shoes with only six months to live, Kim Young-kwang shared, "I would probably travel with my cats, Moon and Baek, and spend my final days with them."
Meanwhile, 'Trigger' has received an enthusiastic response, debuting at number one on Netflix's 'Top 10 Series in South Korea' and reaching fourth place on the 'Global Top 10 Non-English Series' within just three days of its release.
