Lee Min-ki's Dual Identity Shocks in 'Mary Kills People' with New Character Poster Reveal

MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Mary Kills People' is a suspenseful series that follows a doctor who assists terminally ill patients with euthanasia and a detective who is on their trail. The drama marks Lee Bo-young's return to MBC after 33 years and has garnered significant anticipation due to its unique theme of 'assisted death.' However, it had a disappointing start with a 3.2% viewership rating for the first episode, which dropped to 2.1% for the second episode.
In the second episode of 'Mary Kills People,' a tense 'twist ending' unfolded as Jo Hyun-woo (played by Lee Min-ki) shared a tender kiss with Woo So-jung (played by Lee Bo-young), only for a completely different side of Jo Hyun-woo to emerge, heightening the suspense.
In this context, Lee Min-ki captivates attention with a 'character poster' that teases his full-fledged role as detective Ban Ji-hoon. Lee Min-ki exudes an overwhelming mood with his sharp, piercing gaze and a confused expression, resting his chin on one hand in deep thought. This is a stark contrast to the 'Jo Hyun-woo character poster,' where he portrayed despair and resignation as a terminally ill cancer patient.
The Ban Ji-hoon character poster features the phrase, "Woo So-jung, I'll catch you no matter what. But..." This line reflects his complex inner turmoil, caught between truth and deception, leaving a strong impression. Lee Min-ki's character embodies the psychological chaos of a detective who must arrest Woo So-jung, a suspect in a series of drug-related murders, while grappling with the emotional storm of being close to her and the guilt of deceiving her.
Ban Ji-hoon's true identity is that of a detective dedicated to justice. He was previously assigned to an undercover mission that everyone else avoided, but when the suspect discovered his identity and committed suicide, the investigation was closed, and he was demoted to the traffic department. Now, Ban Ji-hoon is tasked with luring Woo So-jung, who has become a murder suspect by assisting patients with euthanasia, to the scene of the crime for arrest. He goes undercover once more as terminally ill patient Jo Hyun-woo. However, as he gets closer to Woo So-jung in his undercover role, he discovers unexpected truths about her, leading him to question her criminal activities. The unfolding relationship between Woo So-jung and Ban Ji-hoon, following the revelation of his true identity, is eagerly anticipated.
The production team stated, "Through the character of Ban Ji-hoon, Lee Min-ki will present a humanistic approach to the conflicting perspectives on assisted death, posing questions of salvation and murder. We look forward to Lee Min-ki's passionate performance, showcasing a new acting spectrum as a detective who goes undercover as a terminally ill patient to achieve justice."
'Mary Kills People' Episode 3 will air on the 8th (Friday) at 10 PM.
