Im Si-wan has transformed into a villain, earning the title of a 'globally disliked character' through the Netflix series 'Squid Game 3.' Despite the worldwide criticism, Im Si-wan feels relieved as seasons 2 and 3 have been successfully released.

Recently, at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Im Si-wan, who plays the character Myung-gi in 'Squid Game 3,' shared his thoughts. Myung-gi, a coin investment YouTuber, participates in the game and encounters his ex-girlfriend Jun-hee (played by Jo Yu-ri), who is pregnant with his child, leading to internal conflict. His ruthless performance, prioritizing debt repayment over his ex-girlfriend and child, has shocked audiences worldwide.

Im Si-wan stated, "I've become a globally disliked character. I take it as a compliment and enjoy it." He added, "This is the most criticized character I've played. It's challenging to defend Myung-gi, who is an unreasonable character."

Im Si-wan explained, "Myung-gi is a shallow character. He seems to face reality. He considers Jun-hee but concludes logically that her injuries are severe and survival is unlikely, leading him to turn away from her."

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk also commented, "Realistically, Myung-gi seems like a bad person. He tries not to be, but his selfishness prevails at crucial moments." Upon hearing this, Im Si-wan agreed, "I can somewhat relate to the director's words after seeing the final product."

Despite having played villains before, the reaction to Im Si-wan's role in this global hit is unique, with negative comments pouring in from around the world.

Im Si-wan expressed, "I don't mind the criticism. I feel liberated. Although this isn't my first villain role, it was unique due to the series format, which kept reminding me of the character. It wasn't easy to follow Myung-gi emotionally, but there's no lingering effect from the role or the criticism."

Understanding the complex character of Myung-gi was aided by senior actor Lee Byung-hun, who, although not directly advising, provided strong support. Im Si-wan shared, "Lee Byung-hun praised my performance, which was a great motivation."

Im Si-wan, who played the most villainous role in 'Squid Game 3,' expressed interest in the character Hyun-joo, a former special forces transgender character. He said, "I don't know if I'd suit the role, but if given the chance, I'd like to try Hyun-joo, a rare righteous character in our series."

In the series, Hyun-joo helps the pregnant Jun-hee in various ways and ultimately sacrifices herself to protect Jun-hee and her newborn from Myung-gi.

Im Si-wan also expressed affection for his co-star Jo Yu-ri, saying, "Yu-ri is new to acting but was confident on set. I even learned from her. At her age, I wonder if I could have been so composed."

After a long journey with 'Squid Game' seasons 2 and 3, Im Si-wan will return to viewers in the Netflix film 'Mantis' later this year. 'Mantis' is an action film about an A-list assassin, 'Mantis,' returning from a long break to compete for the top spot in a lawless contract killing industry. Im Si-wan plays Han-ul, an A-list assassin with MK Ent.
