Son Suk-ku Expresses Admiration for Director Yoon Jong-bin, Credits Wife for Casting Recommendation

In a recent interview at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul, Son Suk-ku discussed his role in the Disney+ series 'Nine Puzzle.'
'Nine Puzzle' is a mystery thriller that follows Yoon Ina (played by Kim Da-mi), the only witness to an unsolved case from 10 years ago and a current profiler, as she teams up with detective Kim Han-sam (played by Son Suk-ku) to unravel the secrets behind a series of murders linked to mysterious puzzle pieces. Son plays Kim Han-sam, a detective in the violent crimes unit and an enthusiast of detective novels and films.
Despite not having much experience in the mystery genre, Son decided to take on 'Nine Puzzle' largely because of director Yoon Jong-bin. He stated, "I'm a huge fan of Director Yoon Jong-bin. Just being asked to meet him was an honor. When I expressed my lack of confidence in the mystery genre, he told me to trust him. While the challenge was appealing, it was mainly because of the director that I took the role." He added with a laugh, "The director didn't know me well, but his wife recommended me. Such instincts are usually spot-on."
Son praised Yoon's meticulous approach, saying, "He doesn't let a single shot pass without scrutiny. That's one of the reasons I respect him." He continued, "I approached this project with the mindset of a student eager to learn. I gained insights not only in acting but also in the overall process of creating a work, including attitude and know-how." He expressed gratitude, saying, "The director is a mentor and life guide to me. I often ask him about social matters beyond acting, and he always provides clear answers."
Son Suk-ku also runs his own agency and production company. When asked if he and Yoon, who is also active as a producer, have discussed collaboration, Son humorously replied, "The director is so skilled that I doubt he'd want to work with me." He added, "For a joint project, I'd need to have something the director lacks, but he seems to have it all," showcasing his respect for Yoon.
