Park Hyung-sik's Stellar Transformation in 'Treasure Island' Captivates Audiences, Sets New Ratings Record

'Treasure Island' has maintained its position as the top-rated weekend drama, starting at 6.1% in its first episode and surpassing 10% by the fourth episode. The eighth episode reached a new high of 12.3%, while its competitor, MBC's 'Undercover High School' starring Seo Kang-joon, only managed 6.1%.

The success of 'Treasure Island' can be attributed to its fast-paced plot and the passionate performances of its cast. The drama follows Seo Dong-joo (played by Park Hyung-sik), who hacks into a 2 trillion won political slush fund and fights against those who want him dead. The storyline, involving corporate power struggles, political intrigue, and the protagonist's amnesia and secret birth, keeps viewers engaged. Despite the potentially dated themes, the strong performances by veteran actors like Heo Joon-ho and Lee Hae-young, alongside younger talents like Park Hyung-sik and Hong Hwa-yeon, have enriched the drama.

In 'Treasure Island,' Park sheds his previous image to portray a character full of ambition and masculinity. This challenge was not easy for him, as he had to gain weight and put in significant effort into his acting. Park convincingly performed intense scenes, such as being shot and falling into the sea, and facing life-threatening situations due to a cinnamon allergy. His presence among a cast of strong actors helped anchor the drama, according to audience feedback.

Park Hyung-sik's efforts to break away from his established image have marked a turning point in his career. His gradual ascent as an actor is finally being recognized.
