Exy, also known as Choo So-jung, candidly shared her feelings about the hiatus from her activities with WJSN.

Debuting in February 2016 as the leader and main rapper of WJSN, Choo So-jung was interviewed last month at the Ten Asia office in Jungnim-dong, Seoul. Even before her official debut, she showcased her bold spirit by appearing on 'Unpretty Rapstar 2', and her passion has remained unwavering. In 2022, she participated in 'Queendom 2', overcoming fierce competition to win, proving her prowess as WJSN's leader.

Having showcased her talents under the name Exy, she is now focusing on her acting career under her real name, Choo So-jung. Last year, she made a special appearance in 'MarryYOU', leaving a strong impression despite her brief screen time. Currently, she is awaiting the release of the drama 'Heo's Restaurant' and the film 'Eighteen Youth', while filming 'Divorce Insurance'.

The first meeting with Choo So-jung was about four years ago, alongside the 10 members of WJSN. Even in the bustling environment, she displayed diligent and smooth leadership, standing out with her positive attitude. Her dedication to performance and producing was evident, and the news of her exploring new possibilities as an actress is exciting.

During the group's hiatus, Choo So-jung admitted, "Honestly, I wasn't okay. After debuting with WJSN, we released albums three times a year and appeared on survival programs, leaving no time to rest. I was used to the hectic schedule, so suddenly having a lot of free time left me unsure of what to do next. Being without a plan was confusing. I'm someone who feels happy when working hard, so I felt lost like I was unemployed."

She confessed to experiencing some depression during that period but gained important insights, saying, "Working in the entertainment industry, I realized that a hiatus could happen anytime. It's not just a personal issue but often due to circumstances. I tried to understand what I enjoy and what activities can lift my spirits, getting to know myself better. Gradually, I was able to create my own routine."

Choo So-jung emphasized, "Understanding and comforting myself is crucial. Knowing this, I found resilience to regain confidence during tough and fearful moments. I'm still learning, but I feel I'm growing through this process."

She added that her perspective began to change two years ago. "With less media exposure, I worried about being forgotten by the public. But I have no intention of giving up, so I've been finding ways to overcome this, doing my best in every given moment," she expressed positively.

Known for her quick ability to learn choreography during group activities, what are her strengths as an actress? She laughed, "I'm still good at memorizing. I quickly memorize lines. Looking back, I was best at memorization subjects like social studies in school." She recalled, "I've never really struggled with memorizing choreography or lines."

Her members have nicknamed her the 'SNS addict'. She shared, "The members respect me for certain things. On off days, they go out without makeup and hats, avoiding photos, but I'm the opposite. I prepare thoroughly even on holidays and visit hot spots to take photos."

Choo So-jung considers "SNS an important channel to communicate with fans. Nowadays, SNS itself is a form of individuality. I see my Instagram feed as a crucial way to express myself, hoping fans will enjoy it. I regularly organize my feed for an emotional touch, along with uploading photos," she joked.
