Exy Opens Up About Her Hiatus from WJSN and New Acting Ventures

Debuting in February 2016 as the leader and main rapper of WJSN, Choo So-jung was interviewed last month at the Ten Asia office in Jungnim-dong, Seoul. Even before her official debut, she showcased her bold spirit by appearing on 'Unpretty Rapstar 2', and her passion has remained unwavering. In 2022, she participated in 'Queendom 2', overcoming fierce competition to win, proving her prowess as WJSN's leader.
Having showcased her talents under the name Exy, she is now focusing on her acting career under her real name, Choo So-jung. Last year, she made a special appearance in 'MarryYOU', leaving a strong impression despite her brief screen time. Currently, she is awaiting the release of the drama 'Heo's Restaurant' and the film 'Eighteen Youth', while filming 'Divorce Insurance'.

During the group's hiatus, Choo So-jung admitted, "Honestly, I wasn't okay. After debuting with WJSN, we released albums three times a year and appeared on survival programs, leaving no time to rest. I was used to the hectic schedule, so suddenly having a lot of free time left me unsure of what to do next. Being without a plan was confusing. I'm someone who feels happy when working hard, so I felt lost like I was unemployed."

Choo So-jung emphasized, "Understanding and comforting myself is crucial. Knowing this, I found resilience to regain confidence during tough and fearful moments. I'm still learning, but I feel I'm growing through this process."
She added that her perspective began to change two years ago. "With less media exposure, I worried about being forgotten by the public. But I have no intention of giving up, so I've been finding ways to overcome this, doing my best in every given moment," she expressed positively.

Her members have nicknamed her the 'SNS addict'. She shared, "The members respect me for certain things. On off days, they go out without makeup and hats, avoiding photos, but I'm the opposite. I prepare thoroughly even on holidays and visit hot spots to take photos."
Choo So-jung considers "SNS an important channel to communicate with fans. Nowadays, SNS itself is a form of individuality. I see my Instagram feed as a crucial way to express myself, hoping fans will enjoy it. I regularly organize my feed for an emotional touch, along with uploading photos," she joked.
