CJ ENM Launches Groundbreaking K-POP Global Twin Project 'BOYS II PLANET'
CJ ENM, the powerhouse behind global survival shows, is embarking on a new venture with the launch of 'BOYS II PLANET', a groundbreaking global boy group project set for 2025. This marks the first-ever simultaneous production of a K-POP global audition program in two distinct regions.
Following the success of the 'I-LAND' series, 'Girls Planet 999: The Girls Saga', and 'BOYS PLANET', the production team is unveiling a new boy group survival project. The second season of 'BOYS PLANET' has been officially titled 'BOYS II PLANET', with a teaser video announcing the start of auditions. Notably, 'BOYS II PLANET' will air in 2025 as two separate programs in different languages, sharing the same format and universe.
This initiative is set to become the world's first K-POP twin project, with both groups debuting simultaneously. Given CJ ENM's history of innovative formats and production expertise, there is significant anticipation for what this new Mnet original project will bring.
The teaser for 'BOYS II PLANET' was first revealed on November 22 at the '2024 MAMA AWARDS' held at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan. The video depicted two individuals in space reaching out to each other, accompanied by the message, "Many worlds, but only one dream that becomes reality in two worlds," hinting at the twin project.
The K-POP global twin project will kick off with 'BOYS II PLANET K' and 'BOYS II PLANET C', produced in Korean and Chinese, respectively. Kim Shin-young, the chief producer and director of the previous 'BOYS PLANET', explained that the project is based on a multiverse concept, with Chinese chosen as the first language due to its global reach of approximately 1.5 billion speakers.
The production team stated, "This journey will discover countless artists from around the world, regardless of nationality. We hope audiences will watch with anticipation to see how the two groups, emerging from different programs within the same universe, will synergize when they come together as a complete unit."
Applications for the world's first K-POP global twin project 'BOYS II PLANET' are open for either the 'K' or 'C' programs. Boys born before January 1, 2012, regardless of nationality, are eligible to apply from November 22 to January 26, 2025. Participants from the pre-audition project 'PLANET B' do not need to reapply.
